Former Attorney General Files Suit Against Law School

Former North Dakota Attorney General, Nicholos Spaeth, has filed a suit against Michigan State University College of Law alleging he was not considered for a teaching position due to his age. According to the complaint, Spaeth had applied for a teaching position at the school and was not even given an interview slot at the Faculty Recruitment Conference.

Spaeth alleges that the school hired three individuals for the positions that are much younger and who he sees as having less experience. The complaint includes one count of the school violating the Age Discrimination Act. Spaeth is also seeking a teaching job and compensation for any lost wages and damages that the denial will cause.

Dean Joan Howarth stated that the school has not yet received any notices regarding the suit. She also said that if a suit has been filed the accusations contained in the documents will be false. Howarth says that the school has never and will never discriminate against a potential employee based on their age.

Lynne Bernabei, attorney for the plaintiff said that Spaeth has filed suits against over 100 schools that all failed to schedule him an interview for a teaching position. Out of that large number of suits, around 30 or 40 have already been dismissed while the remainder are still pending.
